Gods and Goddesses
The cheif gods were Odin, Thor and Frey. Odin was the god of wisdom and war and had many strange, supernatural powers. Thor was more down - to -earth. He was very strong but not very clever! Frey was the god of fertility and birth. He was very genorous. Frey's sister was called Freyja. She was the goddess of love and war. Odin had an eight-legged horse called Sleipnir. He also had two ravens called Thought and Memory. Every morning he would send them down to the world to find out what was happening. Odin is usually shown with one eye because he drank magic to get wisdom and do this he had to sacrifice one eye. The word Wednesday means 'Odin's day'. Thor was Odin's oldest son who had a firey hammer which he would throw at his enemies. The hammer always came back to him. Thursday means ' Thor's day'. Thor's mother was called Frigga who was the goddess of fertility and mother of all. She used to spin a gold thread and weave it into the summer clouds. The word Friday mean's ' Frigga's day'. There were many other gods in a place called Asgard.
